The Liberian Immigrants in Kitchener Environs is pleased to announce that it is the recipient of a fund from Kitchener-Waterloo Community Foundation’s Racial Equity Fund. The funds are intended to assist those most impacted by the ongoing and systemic racial disparities that exist in our community. Our funding has been invested in establishing and expanding our after-school program, which is offered free of charge to children and youth in our community.

ALIKE’s After School Homework program supports racialized children and youth living in affordable housing from grades 1 to 12. Our program coordinators and volunteers provide a range of programs and activities and assist them with their homework including community engagement, life skill development, mentoring, and teaching them the necessary skills to develop problem-solving skills as they engage with the education system. We want to make sure children and youth in the Kitchener-Waterloo region are not struggling with their academics or social life. Therefore, our coordinators and volunteers work with program participants to put them on pathways to access post-secondary education through mentoring and tutoring for academic success.

Every Wednesdays and Fridays, participants must come prepared with their homework and ready to participate. ALIKE’s intends to prepare participants for post-secondary education and employment therefore, we expect all participants to be on time.
